Research, Innovation & Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship and innovation – today’s effort for tomorrow’s wealth
New Frontier Services staff have a long experience in the areas of entrepreneurship and research and innovation. Key staff played a key role in the launch and development of pioneering initiatives such as the Europe’s 500 Listing of High Growth Entrepreneurial companies, and have led the development of initiatives such as the European Investment Forum which involved supporting hundreds of high-tech entrepreneurs in developing their business plan and strategy and in facilitating their search for and access to venture capital investors.
Selected examples of our experience entrepreneurship and research and innovation are set out below:
Reviewing the Efficiency of the FP6 Research & Innovation Programme
NFS was appointed to undertake an efficiency review of the FP6 Research & Innovation Programme. The purpose of the review is to provide an independent view on the funding outcomes of the Research & Innovation Programme, and to review the programme's operating processes and systems. It is expected that the work will help distill learnings from the Research & Innovation Programme's experience, and contribute to informing the process for the finalisation of the Competitiveness & Innovation (CIP) Programme.
One of the EU’s most High-Profile Projects in Asia – Reviewed by New Frontier Services
NFS staff were appointed to undertake the Mid-Term Evaluation of the Trans-Eurasia Information Network. This network seeks to become the equivalent of the GEANT success story in Europe. A key part of the EU's vision for a global information society, the network is a highly strategic one for the EU and its development is closely followed and supported by DG RELEX, DG AIDCO, DG INFSO and DG RESEARCH, amongst others. The Trans-Eurasia Information Network has been specifically mentioned in recent EU-ASIAN Heads of State and Government summit meetings, and is one of the EU’s most High-Profile Projects in Asia. NFS was asked to review in particular TEIN2’s financial sustainability and the EC’s financial support, Asian-led governance scenarios for the network, and its user applications.
European Commission (DG ENTR): Evaluation of European Commission Activities in the area of Innovation (including intellectual property support)
Working as as a sub-contractor to The Evaluation Parntership (TEP), NFS provided a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for evaluation of EC-supported activities in the area of Innovation, covering the following initiatives:
IPR Help Desk, a key EU initiative in supporting effective IPR management among innovative SMEs in Europe
Innovation Relay Centres (IRC) Network, the
EU’s most important initiative in promoting transnational technology transfer.
Trend Chart Initiative, the
EC’s flagship initiative in tracking and monitoring innovation performance
within the EU.
Innovating Regions in Europe (IRE) Network, an important initiative in promoting regional innovation.
Gate2Growth INVESTORNET initiative, an
EC initiative to support networking and knowledge development among Europe’s
venture capital community and facilitate investment in high-tech companies.
Review of the commercialisation plan for a European multimedia editing and publishing tool
New Frontier Services were appointed by a European RTD Consortium in the area
of multi-media editing and publishing to conduct an external review of the
RTD project’s commercialization plan, and provide recommendations to improve
the commercialisation strategy.
Innovation & Entrepreneurship Event
at the Gate2Growth Innovation and Private Sector Development
For one of the Commission’s largest Innovation and Private Sector Development programmes, the Gate2Growth programme, provided management services for the organization of an innovation & entrepreneurship
programme in the Czech Republic, that addressed entrepreneurship, incubation
and research commercialization issues with actors from across the Newly Acceded
States. Also NFS provided a moderator at one of the Plenary Panel discussions
